Youngsters are invited to register sooner rather than later, for this years Junior Triathlon, to guarantee their place on the official list of competitors. The annual sporting event which takes place on Sunday July 3rd, is open to children from the age of 8 to 15 years.
Activities include swimming in the pool at Crewkerne Aqua Centre, cycling and running on grass at Henhayes Recreation Ground. Distances which competitors are required to swim, cycle and run, are set for each age group. There are four age categories, 8 yrs, 9-10 yrs, 11-12 yrs and 13-15 yrs.
Minimum distance requirements for an 8 year old entrant are set at 25m for swimming, 600m for cycling and 300m for running. Last year’s Junior Triathlon attracted more than 100 participants. Trophies are awarded to the winners and runners-up in each age group. Awards are also presented to the first local boy and local girl in each age group. Entry forms can be collected from the town hall, or downloaded from www.aboutcrewkerne.org Competition fees cost £8 per entrant and include membership to the British Triathlon Federation during the event.
