Friends of Crewkerne Library are celebrating as official news from Somerset Library Services has confirmed that the town’s library is to stay open with a revised timetable.
The new timetable, due to take effect in June, will see Crewkerne Library close on Mondays at 1.30pm instead of its current time of 5pm, Fridays at 5pm instead of 6pm and Saturday mornings, closing 30 minutes earlier at 12 noon.
A reduction of five hours to the library’s weekly opening times, is being viewed as a minor inconvenience in the wider scale of things. Chairperson of the Friends of Crewkerne Library, Sheridan Casson said: “The most important thing to be so very grateful for, is that South Somerset hasn’t closed any libraries as yet. Although at our local library in Crewkerne we will lose hours overall, we are able to stay open until 5pm most evenings, enabling working people to use the resources.
“We are calling out to the community as a whole, to get behind the library. Come and borrow a book or DVD, use the computer and internet, which are free of charge, and support the library’s regular activities and fundraising events.”
An increase in the library’s book budget means that new books will be arriving on the shelves. A further testimonial that the Friends of Crewkerne Library are keeping the library a busy and vibrant part of the community. All they ask in return, is that you carry on supporting them and using the services at your local library in Crewkerne.
