Crewkerne’s town centre Post Office, formerly in East Street, will re-open at new premises in Dailyz Tech, 11 Market Street, with improved lighting, level access and longer opening hours to include Saturdays and Sundays. The Post Offices’ regional network manager Sue Whittall confirmed that concerns raised during the public consultation period, which ended at the beginning of June, have been fully taken into consideration and acted upon.
‘We recognise that the Post Office plays an important part in the lives of customers, particularly the elderly and disabled customers. I can confirm that the new branch will have level access with a wide door at the entrance, ensuring ease of access into the premises. With regards to customers concerns on the lighting, I am pleased to say that new lighting will be fitted throughout the shop. We have been working closely with the new operator to plan the interior layout of the post office counter area, to ensure optimum use of the space within the store and that access into and inside the store is kept clear and free of obstacles.’
The Market Street branch will operate as one of their new main style Post Office branches. There will be three serving positions, which will be a mixture of one screened, one open plan and a post office serving point provided for use at the retail counter and available during shop opening hours. Post Office opening hours are Mondays to Saturdays 0900-2000hrs and Sundays from 10am until 8pm. Level access with a wide door will be available and a new entrance at the side of the shop in Falkland Square implemented to reduce queues. Internally, there will be a low level serving counter, low level writing desk, hearing loop and space for a wheelchair.
Chairman of Crewkerne Area Business Chamber Brian Forster said: ‘The town post office opening some time soon is great news for the town and its location is ideally situated to get people out of the car parks. We hope everything goes well and that there are no further delays.’
Steve Smith, proprietor of Dailyz Tech said: ‘We are thoroughly looking forward to the Post Office re-opening within our well established store in the town centre. There are many plans we have and are currently under-going at the moment. All of which we hope will continue to make both businesses very successful.’
