CREWKERNE U3A MEMBERS LEAD AREA TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR POTENTIAL TRUSTEES

Crewkerne U3A members Val Warren and Anne Bright led an area training workshop for potential trustees in Yeovil. The training event at St James church hall in Yeovil was attended by more than 20 delegates from the Avalon network and South West Regional U3A trustee Diane Holdsworth. Val Warren is the co-ordinator for the Avalon network, which consists of U3A groups in Crewkerne & District, Chard & Ilminster, Yeovil, Somerton and Castle Cary (Camelot). Anne Bright is the chair of Crewkerne U3A.

A presentation on the structure, policies and aims of the U3A, plus the responsibilities of trustees, was followed by group discussions on members roles. Case studies based on actual situations within the U3A, highlighted the type of problems that members might have to deal with, when they become trustees. Val Warren said: “It was very well attended and I believe gave them an insight into the role of a trustee. The discussion groups were particularly useful because they gave everyone a chance to participate and express a point of view.”
