An urgent call for cooks at the Country Market in Crewkerne has been issued by the society’s membership. The society which holds its country market at the Speedwell Hall in Abbey Street on Friday mornings from 9 am until 11 am, is also interested in hearing from local fruit, vegetable and plant growers and crafts people.
Anyone who is interested in supplying home baked cakes, savouries, conserves and other produce for the weekly indoor market, will need to become a member of the Country Market Society. The current joining fee is only five pence. They will also need to obtain an up-to-date hand-book for members, the appropriate packaging material, approved country market labels and invoices. All food handlers are required by law to undertake relevant food hygiene training and cooks must obtain a Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering.
Members are paid each month for the sale of their goods, less a small commission, on average 10% of their sales, to cover running costs and product and public liability insurance. The team at Crewkerne Country Market will be happy to assist with any enquiries for membership and details of training days, to gain the relevant food and hygiene qualification. Crewkerne’s next Country Market is on Friday April 7th, when there will also be a demonstration on Quilting.
