Baristas dressed up as Disney characters on Saturday, as part of their fund-raising efforts for the Costa Foundation. The staff at Costa in Crewkerne had invited customers to choose between a pirate or Disney theme for the day, by putting their spare change into one of two donation slots. The pirate side of the money box collected £276.48 but the Disney side edged ahead with total collections of £300.03. Making a grand total of £576.51.
The Costa Foundation helps the coffee growing communities around the world, working with their children’s educational and training needs, from nursery school to primary school and at high schools, that enable parents and their children to study together. The Foundation also runs extra curricular school clubs, especially for girls, who can then share what they have learned within their respective communities.
Baristas in Crewkerne also invited Costa customers to vote for their favourite Disney character on Fancy Dress Day by choosing a character, selecting the colour linked to the staff members costume and donating a coin into the appropriate glass on the counter. This raised approximately another £100 for the charitable foundation. A draw took place at the end of the afternoon, with one customer who had selected the winning colour/character winning a bunch of flowers and a mermaid cake. The mermaid cake was especially created for the event by Jenna Louise Roberts of Sugar Bloom. The lucky customer was Helen Thurston who voted for Snow White aka Xe Knight. Children who turned up in fancy dress on Saturday were presented with a mini pot of sweets, as a thank you for joining in the fun at Costa Crewkerne.
