Local therapist Rebecca Miles will be competing in the World Massage Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark on June 3rd and 4th this year. Rebecca has over 13 years experience working in complimentary therapies and teaches infant massage, with a demonstration doll, to parents at Getset centres in Crewkerne, Ilchester and Yeovil. Rebecca has her own professional therapy business Somerset Therapies, which is both home based and mobile. She offers a range of therapies including aromatherapy, Swedish massage, hot and cold stone massage and ear candling. Rebecca is also a fully qualified beauty therapist and has previously worked for the leading make-up and skincare company Estee Lauder.
The invitation to compete in the World Massage Championships of 2017, is especially important to Rebecca as it is less than 12 months ago that she was treated for cancer and underwent two neck operations. Rebecca said: “It means the world to me, to be able to go, following a very challenging year. I think that having coming through it all, it has made me a stronger person and one who is more determined to go for the new opportunities around, while still very much appreciating what I have and where I am now.” Rebecca will compete in the Swedish massage category at the world championships. She will also be judged on deep tissue and Indian head massage. The panel of judges will consist of members of the board of directors at the International Massage Association, elected representatives from the National Massage Association and Massage World Magazine. Participants will be evaluated and points awarded in four areas, techniques, ergonomics, flow and innovation and the development of new methods. The winner with the most points will be appointed as World Champion in Massage 2017. All participants will receive a certificate. Rebecca has no pre-conceived ideas on how well she will do but is very much looking forward to competing and having the wonderful opportunity to network with other therapists from across the world.
