SIXTEEN NEW MEMBERS SIGN UP ON U3A REGISTRATION DAY

Sixteen new members signed up to Crewkerne U3A on its annual registration day. One of the most popular groups was the Wine Appreciation, where those who visited the group’s stand were able to sample a glass of Merlot or Sauvignon Blanc. Crewkerne U3A currently runs over 40 special interest groups from ancient history and art appreciation to walking football and writing for pleasure. Chair of Crewkerne U3A Anne Bright said: “The event went very well and lots of people came along to see what was on offer and find out more about the U3A.”

The wine appreciation group is run jointly with Chard U3A. Led by retired wine importer David Himners, events during the year include a vineyard tour. Val Warren of Crewkerne U3A said: “We will be raising a glass or two to Crewkerne & District U3A, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. It has grown to be a great success and our founder members should be proud of the organisation they started.” At the annual registration day in the Henhayes Community Centre was one of the U3A’s newest groups Linux, led by Derek McGouran and dealing with computer programming and software. The work of the colour therapy group was demonstrated by long term U3A member Betty Spanswick.
