RUNNERS MEET UP FOR A MEMORIAL RUN WHERE DOZENS OF BLUE BALLOONS WERE RELEASED IN MEMORY OF A DEAR FRIEND AND FELLOW RUNNER

Crewkerne’s Rebel Runners and Chard Road Runners met up for a memorial run in memory of a dear friend and fellow runner on Thursday evening. The local running groups were deeply saddened last month, at the sudden death of Dave Carter. David Marco Carter was a keen sportsman, family man and the headteacher at St Bartholomew’s School in Crewkerne.

The runners gathered with their families in the car park at the Stonemasons in Ilminster where a one minute silence took place before around 50 blue balloons from Rodfords florist shop in Crewkerne and two heart shaped red and black balloons, were released up into the sky. Adrian East of Rebel Runners said: “Thank you to everyone for coming this evening. It is very sad. Dave was a great guy and a great inspiration to us all.”

The runners then set off for a 30 minute run, along the cycle path towards Chard. The organised mixed ability run allowed all those who knew Mr Carter to join in and pay their respects, with runners of all ages taking part. The runners then returned along the same track, each going at their own individual speed and arrived back at the Stonemasons, where refreshments were served and a collection was made for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
