A Crewkerne Town Councillor has been the first candidate to garner the required support to submit valid nomination papers. Katy Pritchard will stand as an Independent Parliamentary Candidate for the Yeovil Constituency in the forth-coming General Election on Thursday June 8th.
Katy Pritchard was co-opted to Crewkerne Town Council as an Independent in 2013. In 2015, she was successfully re-elected to the town council and is currently vice chair of Policy & Resources. Katy lives in Crewkerne, in the middle of the Yeovil constituency area and works for the NHS in Yeovil. Her political awareness is evidenced by her work in Westminster, where she was a consultant to the Backbench Families and Education Committee. Katy is passionate about contributing to her community. She can often be seen litter picking with the Rotary Club of Crewkerne District and stewarding and fund-raising for local charities.
As chair of the local nature reserve committee (Bincombe Beeches), she has championed initiatives to preserve native species. Katy currently volunteers as a children’s mentor through Promise Works and has previously sat as a school governor and volunteered on ‘Sense’ holidays. As an Independent MP, Katy would not be affected by party whip and would be able to promote the best interests of the area, without concern for party lines. Katy said: “I want to provide a credible alternative choice for disaffected voters. I’m aware that all too often politics is about protecting the party image. I’m just not interested in party politics any more. I want to do what is right by the people in my community. I am overwhelmed by the support I have received from local voters, uniting behind my campaign.
Katy Pritchard intends to fund her election campaign entirely from her personal savings. She stands on a platform of addressing the unique needs in the Yeovil constituency area, tackling transportation problems, protecting the environment and addressing social issues.
