Crewkerne’s Relay For Life group have welcomed their newest recruit. Roger, the Relay Rabbit, is now the official mascot for the team events taking place in Crewkerne and in the surrounding villages. Crewkerne Relay For Life group chairman Louise Smith confirmed that Roger is their new mascot and said: “We are getting him a large Relay t-shirt to wear, so that he will look the part.” All the teams taking part in this years charity fund-raising events in aid of Cancer Research UK have so far raised a combined total of over £23,000. The target set at the beginning was £26,000 and is expected to be achieved and surpassed by the time of the main Crewkerne Relay For Life 24 hour event at Wadham School on July 22nd/23rd.
One of the next events which people can look forward to has been organised by the Rebels For Life team and will take place on Saturday June 10th at 2 pm in Market Square. Team members Adrian East and Kay Perren of the Rebel Runners running club in Crewkerne/Chard will be hosting a Fancy Dress Three Legged Cake Stall Crawl. It is described as being “like a pub crawl but with cakes and a little side activity of guess the cake flavours.”
The concept for this unusual fund-raising activity involves dressing-up, tying yourself to a team mate and running/walking/crawling between the organised cake stops. Competitors will need to eat a cake at each stop and guess its flavour, before moving on to the next cake stop. Please make sure that your team is registered in advance of the fun event on June 10th, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org for an entry form. Entry fees are £5.00 per team, with all proceeds going to Crewkerne Relay For Life to help them reach their fund-raising target in support of Cancer Research UK.
