Crewkerne Bowling Club are hosting an Open Day on Saturday May 27th from 10.30 am until 4 pm. Entry to the bowling green, which is situated at the top left hand side in West Street car park, will be free and refreshments will be served. Crewkerne Bowling Club celebrated its Centenary in 2010. The club is proud to have carried on the long tradition of lawn bowling in the town, for over 100 years. A club spokesperson said: “We have the green, the woods and friendly folk are available to help. All we ask is that if you fancy having a go at lawn bowling, you wear flat shoes.”
People of all ages and bowling abilities, including complete beginners, are welcome on the club’s Open Day. As the club plays on grass, the length of the jack can vary for every end, making each roll different. But the ‘magic of lawn bowls is that the woods do not travel straight, meaning that a bowler can get around a competitors bowl, that may be in their path, to claim victory’. Lawn Bowls is described as a lot of fun, easy to learn and a very sociable sport.
