A Celebration lunch to mark the 40th Anniversary of Crewkerne Probus Club was held at the Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster on Wednesday. Club President John Clotworthy spoke to members and invited guests about the Probus club’s foundation and role. There was a table display on the Crewkerne club’s history and an anniversary cake, which was baked and decorated by the President’s wife Geraldine Clotworthy. A toast to Crewkerne Probus Club was proposed by the President of the Rotary Club of Crewkerne, David Fradgley, who reflected on the historic links between the two clubs.
Following an initiative by Crewkerne Rotary Club, the first lunch meeting of the Crewkerne Probus Club was held in the George Inn, Crewkerne on May 25th, 1977. The club now meets for lunch at the Windwhistle Inn, on the last Wednesday of every month. Each year, special events are held to which partners as well as other guests are invited. There is a Ladies lunch in May, a Summer outing, Autumn supper and a Christmas lunch.
