Youngsters are invited to register for this years Junior Triathlon which takes place on Sunday July 2nd, starting at 10 am in the swimming pool at Crewkerne Aqua Centre. The event is now in its 18th year and is open to children from 8 years to 15 years of age. Activities include swimming, cycling and running on grass at the Henhayes playing field. Distances which competitors are required to swim, cycle and run, are set for each age group. There are four age categories, 8yrs, 9-10yrs, 11-12yrs and 13-15yrs. Minimum distance requirements for an 8 year old entrant are set at 25m (one length of the pool) swimming, 600m for cycling and 300m in the running section.
Trophies will be awarded to the winners and runners-up in each age group. Awards will also be presented to the first local boy and local girl in each age group. All the competitors will receive a souvenir t-shirt and a medal. The Junior Triathlon is organised by the Crewkerne Triathlon Management Group. A spokesman said: “It is intended to be a fun event for junior athletes, which will engender friendly competition. It should be enjoyed by the last finisher as much as by the winner.” The closing date for entries is Friday June 23rd. Competition fees cost £8 per entrant which include membership to the British Triathlon Federation, during the competition.
