FIRE SERVICE’S RAPID RESPONSE TO CHILD ACCIDENTALLY LOCKED IN CAR

Crewkerne firefighters responded rapidly to a call of a child locked in a car on Saturday morning. The 18 month old child, whose mother had just arrived in the Waitrose car park in South Street, had become accidentally locked in the vehicle, along with the car keys. The incident took place at around 10.39 am, on the hottest day of the year so far, with outside temperatures soaring well into the 80 degrees fahrenheit.

A spokesperson for Devon & Somerset Fire Service confirmed that a fire appliance from Station 77 in Crewkerne, had been mobilised, as soon as the call was received. They also said: “Shortly after arriving, our crew were able to release the baby unharmed, into the care of the mother, by breaking one of the car’s windows.”
