A Jazz appreciation group held its annual barbecue, on the hottest day for more than 40 years, with temperatures soaring into the 30’s. The barbecue was hosted by Tony and Val Warren, in their back garden, on Midsummer’s Day. Members and guests of the group which is part of Crewkerne & District U3A, relaxed under the shade of parasols and a gazebo. They listened to their favourite tracks, which included some ‘cool’ modern jazz. A glass of chilled wine was much appreciated and found to be very refreshing. Tony Warren was the chef for the barbecue and his and Val’s chocolate labrador Maya, was keen to help with the clearing up. Mike Lucas who will lead the group’s next meeting on July 19th at the Heritage Centre in Crewkerne Museum, when they will be exploring the quirkier corners of jazz, said: “It was a very successful day. Group leader Val Warren added that: “New members for our jazz appreciation group, are always welcome to come and join us.”
