RUNNING CLUB WINS SPORTS AWARD

A local running club based in Crewkerne has won a sports award. Rebel Runners, set up by Adrian East and Kay Perren about 18 months ago, encourages people who have never competed in races before, to join them and experience the thrill of running. While some members of the club are experienced runners, others have built up their strength and confidence since joining and now compete in 10K races, across Somerset and Dorset.

At the SASP Sports Awards evening, held at Taunton Rugby Football Club, Adrian and Kay were presented with Runners-Up certificates, following their nomination and notification that they had been short-listed. Somerset Activity & Sports Partners (SASP) with offices based in Wellington, set up Run Somerset, to help promote running groups around Somerset. It is a non-profit organization in sports and recreation. A spokesperson for SASP said: “Well done to Rebel Runners, very well deserved, we hope they had a fantastic evening.”

Adrian East and Kay Perren of Rebel Runners joined two other clubs also short-listed, Bridgwater Ladies Running Club and Somerset & Taunton Running Club, at the ceremony for Somerset Sports Award 2017. Adrian said: “It was an amazing experience and to receive a Runners-Up award is still sinking in. It’s something we will both treasure forever. Thank you for nominating us, whoever you are? We are proud of each and everyone of our club members. It’s all about seeing them achieve their goals. For some, it’s been a tougher journey than others but they have done it and will achieve even more. We will be there every step of the way. Not only are you Rebel Runners, you are also our friends.” For more information on the club runs, times and meeting places, please email rebelrunners@hotmail.com
