Crewkerne Lions Club invite you to meet their friendly emus, Sidney, Brisbane and Hobart, at the start of a fund-raising weekend, which begins on Friday July 7th at 7.30 pm with the Land Down Under. The Australian themed evening of entertainment will feature Crewkerne’s answer to Crocodile Dundee aka local actor Richard Walters, music by DJ Nelson, a two course meal with barbecue and choice of desserts, Bush Tucker trial and various games, including crocodile racing. Tickets for the evening cost £10 per adult and £6 for children under twelve years of age.
On Saturday July 8th, the fun continues from 2 pm, with a Tractor & Vintage Vehicle Run. The route includes some off road terrain for the farm vehicles, a more sedate route for the vintage vehicles and includes a stop at ‘two watering holes’ (pubs) before finishing back at Clapton Farm for a hog roast with licensed bar and jazz/folk music by Gil Merrick and his band. Entry to Saturday’s tractor and vintage vehicle run, including the food and entertainment afterwards, costs £12.50.
The traditional Fun Day and Duck Race takes place on Sunday July 9th from 11 am until 4 pm, in the big field across the road from the farm in Clapton. This year’s entertainments in the show ring, include a display of falconry, family dog show, exhibition of mini jeeps, variety of stalls and a car boot sale. Refreshments will be available throughout the day and the event will end with the popular duck race, featuring Duck Master Fred. In previous years, Fred has dressed up as a bathing belle, mermaid, ugly duckling, swan and crocodile. Fans of the annual fun day are trying to guess Fred’s theme for this year.
