Crewkerne Area Business Chamber has agreed to move forward with plans for a Business Development Centre in the town. CABC committee members recently completed their feasibility study into establishing a business centre for people wishing to start-up or kick start a business in a low cost convenient base with suitable facilities. Other benefits, listed in the study document, include shared basic operating costs, increased commercial presence in Crewkerne and the surrounding area and the creation of jobs within the business centre and for participating businesses.
Facilities and services which could be provided, depending on the individual needs of the new businesses who are interested in renting space, cover virtual office – use of the address and a dedicated mailbox, hot desk with adhoc access to co-working hot desks and storage lockers, bookable meeting and event room(s), administrative support services and access to business and ICT advice from CABC members. The study document also covers organisation and staffing, financial considerations, income sources and potential non-tenant sources of set-up and ongoing funding.
Members of the CABC committee and working group party, visited similar business centres, that are successfully running, to gain insight on setting up a Business Development Centre in Crewkerne. Committee members recently confirmed their support of the feasibility study and agreed to progress to the next stage of ‘project initiation’. Due to the need to research and engage with other parties, it is envisaged that this phase will take between three to four months to cover all aspects documented and produce a detailed project definition and plan.
