RELAY FOR LIFE 24 HOUR EVENT

Crewkerne Relay For Life 24 hour event, in aid of Cancer Research UK, begins at 11.30 am in Wadham School grounds on Saturday July 22nd. The relay is the grand finale to approximately nine months of fundraising, which began with a group of dedicated volunteers who formed an organising committee chaired by Louise Smith. The aim was to bring the first event of its kind to the Crewkerne area and raise a target of £26,000. Support for Crewkerne Relay For Life 2017 has been amazing with local businesses, organisations, schools and many others forming teams to take part in the track event at Wadham and hosting a variety of fundraising stalls and events throughout the year.

Entertainment on Saturday 22nd will include a concert by Phoenix Brass Band, games, food stalls, a ladies Red tent and other activities, providing fun for all the family. At 2 pm, a themed lap will take place with everyone dressed up as their favourite superhero or princess character. In the charity track event, team members will take it in turns to walk the track continuously for 24 hours, reflecting the fact that cancer never sleeps. A Candle of Hope ceremony will take place at 10 pm, when candle bags will be lit around the track, in memory of those who have lost their battle with the disease and to pay tribute to all those who have been affected by cancer.

Tickets for the grand draw with prizes that include a two night stay in a yurt, a ride in an Ariel Atom, one adult ticket to Longleat and other lovely prizes, will be on sale at the event, to add a final push to the total raised so far for Cancer Research UK, which currently stands at over £36,000.
