A group of elderly residents who organised a Summer fete have raised £500 for Children’s Hospice South West. Barn Crescent resident Angie, came up with the idea to raise funds for the charity which provides the only hospice care in a hospice environment in the South West for children with life-limiting conditions and currently provides care for in excess of 400 families. Angie’s idea was fully supported by friends and by Jean Geary the Supported Housing Assisted Living Co-ordinator for Yarlington at the retirement living scheme in Crewkerne. The Summer fete attracted many visitors who were happy to browse through the second-hand clothes, bric-a-brac and book stalls and try their luck on the tombola, guess the doll’s name and buy raffle tickets for the grand draw. The sunshine made a welcome appearance and the rain kept away, enabling the stalls to be sited outside on the communal lawned area while the common room was turned into a cafe area, providing drinks, light lunches and afternoon teas.
