A busy cafe near Crewkerne Railway Station has been unexpectedly put up for sale. MJ’s in the old weighbridge buiding has successfully traded for three years and has planning permission for a large glass conservatory to be erected at the back of the property, which would provide a further eight seats and have wide doors with level access for wheelchair users. The leasehold of the cafe is priced at £15,000 to include all fixtures, fittings and stock. The annual rent is £7,500, there are no business rates payable and the current lease runs until 2023. A car parking area adjacent to the cafe brings in extra income from commuters and the cafe which has class A3 usage, has a lucrative outside catering contract with a neighbouring business of builders merchants.
Cafe proprietor Ms Allyson Brewer-Swain is sad that she is having to sell the cafe. She has not reached the decision lighly but needs the money to fund her daughter’s further education. Allyson said: “This will be a shock to many of my loyal regular customers and my VIPs who are all dear to my heart. I am a single mum and I’m selling the cafe as I’m having to fund my daughter through college and university and don’t have a partner to support me.
“I would like to thank everyone for the last three years, the good times we have had raising money for charity, building a good customer base, the support of close friends and family and having the most loyal staff that I could ask for.
