COMMUNITY CINEMA’S NEW SEASON STARTS WITH BAFTA AWARD WINNING FILM

Crewkerne & District Community Cinema starts the new season with a BAFTA award winning film that is based on a true story. Lion will be screened by the Film Crew on Friday September 8th at 7.30 pm in Wadham School. Inspired by the real life search for family members by Saroo Brierly and his autobiographical book of memoirs A Long Way Home, the film stars Nicole Kidman, David Wenham, Rooney Mara and Dev Patel.

Dev Patel won a BAFTA for best supporting actor in the film and the film won a BAFTA for the best adapted screenplay at this years award ceremony. The story begins when five year old Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of miles across India, away from his home and family. He learns to survive on his own in Kolkata, is adopted by an Australian couple and 25 years later sets out to find his lost family, spurred on by his unwavering determination, memories and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth.

Crewkerne & District Community Cinema is a friendly film club, that shows a range of quality films from around the world for all members of the community. The film season runs from September to May and the annual membership, which equates to less than £3 per screening, is still £25. Membership forms are available from the community office in the town hall. For more information, please email rick.canning1@btinternet.com
