Crewkerne Museums family quiz on discovering objects in the town, is drawing to a close, and all those who collected an entry form are reminded to return them to the museum by Saturday September 2nd. A spokesperson for Crewkerne Museum said: “The school holidays are nearly over. We have been pleased to receive some entries for the competition but some have not yet been returned.” Crewkerne Curiosities invited families to take part and discover the historic objects that could easily be found in six streets near the town centre. There are five to be found in each of the named streets which can be discovered by referring to the pictures on the entry form. Three winners, who will be notified within a week of the competition closing, will receive a £10 cash prize.
The museum’s current exhibition Explorers and Travellers, with stories of south Somerset men who became explorers, travellers and pioneers of foreign lands finishes on Saturday September 16th. The exhibition which takes visitors on a journey around the globe with interesting artifacts and curios and follows the sea-faring expeditions of Thomas Coryat from Odcombe and William Dampier from East Coker, has proved to be extremely popular with visitors of all ages.
A certain amount of secrecy surrounds the next exhibition at Crewkerne Museum which is due to be unveiled on Saturday September 23rd. Hidden Collection will be the last historic exhibition of the season, where some new items that have recently been taken into the collection will be on display and volunteers are looking to add some curiosities that promise to keep visitors guessing.
