AWARDS FOR BRASS BAND AT SOUTH WEST FESTIVAL

Phoenix Brass Band of Crewkerne were awarded second place in the 2nd section at the annual South West Brass Band Association Festival in Exmouth. The band’s principal cornet player Matt Read won best soloist in the competition after he wowed the audience with Phoenix Brass’ very own Graham Robinsons arrangement of ‘Feeling Good’. Phoenix Brass commenced their days performance in bright sunshine outside of Exmouth Pavilion in the gardens, where they performed to a crowd of sun seekers and members of other brass bands who were attending the contest.

A short break followed before the main entertainment began inside the pavilion. Phoenix Brass commenced with Danny Elfmans ‘Theme to Batman’. The local brass band paid tribute to the victims of the Ariana Grande concert by performing a specially written arrangement of the hymn tune ‘Manchester’ and closed the performance with their MD’s transcription of Haykens’ Serenade.

A spokesperson for Phoenix Brass said: “We would like to thank the players who moved seats at the last moment and a special thanks to Stephen Bucknell for guesting, it was very much appreciated.” Phoenix Brass now have time to reflect on the adjudicators remarks and continue to improve, under the direction of their MD Tom Griffin, as they prepare for the next concert at St John’s Church in Yeovil on Saturday October 7th at 7 pm.
