FREEMASONS FIZZ AND QUIZ NIGHT RAISES MONEY FOR FREEWHEELERS

The Freemasons Fizz and Quiz night at the Masonic Hall in Crewkerne raised £300 for Yeovil Freewheelers. A cheque for £500 was presented to Martin Surrey, chairman of Yeovil Freewheelers by Andrew Mackay, the current Master of the Parrett & Axe Lodge. The amount included proceeds from a raffle held during a Sunday lunch event at Cricket St Thomas golf club in July. Winners of the Freemasons quiz night in Crewkerne were a team from Chard, entered by Mr and Mrs Butterworth. Their prize was six bottles of prosecco.

Yeovil Freewheelers is the oldest operational blood bike group in the country. Founded by Cecil Turner in 1978, the charitable organisation provides a valuable out-of-hours free courier service between hospitals and patients’ homes in south Somerset and north Dorset. All of the motorcyclists are unpaid volunteers and they are looking forward to celebrating the charity’s 40th anniversary next year.
