Crewkerne photographers have once again been awarded top honours in the annual inter University of the Third Age (U3A) photography competition. In a repeat of their successes last year, the winning team were presented with the Challenge Shield. Dorchester U3A came second and Yeovil U3A were third. The annual award for the best photograph went to Crewkerne U3A’s Betty Spanswick. Her winning photograph, depicted a red high-heeled shoe among two pairs of scruffy trainers and boots. Runner up was David Preston of Yeovil U3A.
The photography competition is now in its sixth year and was organised again this year by Mary Fowler, leader of Crewkerne U3A photography group 1. It was judged by photographer Sid Jones of Dorchester. The theme of the competition ‘Alone’, resulted in a wide variety of pictures, featuring everything from people, dogs and wildlife which included a photo of a badger drinking from a garden pond, to architecture, boats, abseiling and sky-diving. The featured photo of Betty Spanswick being presented with her winners certificate by competition judge Sid Jones was taken by Alan Keene of the Crewkerne U3A photography group.
