Friends of Crewkerne Station will be welcoming visitors and passengers to their festive Open Day at Crewkerne railway station on Saturday December 2nd from 10 am until 2.30 pm. This year’s winter Open Day will have a period theme with many of the Friends dressing in Victorian costume while others will be donning their elfin outfits to help Santa. Crewkerne Crewners will be singing carols and mince pies and hot drinks will be available at MJ’s cafe in the old weighbridge.
For those interested in the history of the railway station, an exhibition with black and white photographs will be on display. The booking office at Crewkerne railway station will be decked out with Christmas decorations and a festive tree, which the Friends are hoping will attract the public’s votes in an annual competition run by the Blackmore Vale Community Rail Partnership. Blackmore Vale CRP, was set up to work with and promote all the railway stations on the main Waterloo line, between Crewkerne and Tisbury. The rail partnership will be giving a special award for the best decorated station at Christmas time. Points will be awarded for the coolest Santa, most imaginative Christmas lights, most creative use of a Christmas star, most impressive wreath or garland, classiest Christmas tree and most festive booking hall.
