TWENTY ONE SCHOOL TEAMS COMPETE IN ROTARY’S TECHNOLOGY TOURNAMENT

Twenty one schools teams competed in this year’s Technology Tournament, held at Wadham School. The annual technology tournament is organised by the Rotary Club of Crewkerne. It was sponsored by Parker Hannifin Ltd of Crewkerne who supplied the judges, with the chief judge being Peter Mackay of Housego Ltd and a member of Ilminster Rotary Club. The school teams from Maiden Beech Academy, Stanchester Academy, Bucklers Academy, Swanmead Community School and Wadham Community School had no idea of the title of the project until the morning of the tournament.

Students were given a set of materials from which they had to plan, make drawings and finally build an electric truck to run through a pipe and push materials to the end stage of the competition. The winners of the Foundation Level were Swanmead 3 whose team members were Erin Pattemore, Charlie Lefeuvre, Megan Norman and Callum Burkey. The winners of the Intermediate Level were Wadham 1 with team members Harry Bennett, Thomas Jackson and Jonathon Oakman. The winning teams were presented with their award certificates and trophies by Peter Lawrence, president of the Rotary Club of Crewkerne.
