CHRISTMAS FLOAT COLLECTIONS RAISE £1,907 FOR LOCAL CHARITIES

Christmas float collections by volunteers of the Rotary Club of Crewkerne District raised £1,907 for local charities. The festive sleigh with Father Christmas on board visited streets and residential areas in Crewkerne, Merriott and Misterton over six nights during the two weeks leading up to Christmas. Volunteers of all ages, co-ordinated by Fiona Greenwood, braved the cold and rain as they carried out door-to-door collections and spread festive spirit offering residents a chocolate treat.

Local charities that have benefited from the amount of money raised, include Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, Henhayes Memory Club, School In A Bag and Horseshoes & Handprints. The Rotary Club of Crewkerne District president Martin Holley said: ” It was wonderful to see some very excited kids. Santa had spent a lot of time practicing dabbing and it seems to have paid off!

“Well done to all the members and friends who turned out to escort Santa. It was great work as always and thanks to all those who provided welcome refreshments on our route.
We know that there are a lot of people hard-up this year and we thank you for your great generosity. It really makes a difference to local charities and our whole community should be proud of this achievement.”
