The generosity of motorists and passers by at the Crewkerne firefighters charity car wash has astounded crew members. A group of firefighters from Crewkerne Fire Station gave up a day of the Bank Holiday weekend to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity, which actively supports firefighters in the UK who are in need of assistance due to injuries, illnesses or psychological traumas and provides assistance to serving and retired firefighters and their dependents. The annual fundraising event is part of the National Car Washing League, and saw firefighters across the country giving up their free time, as they equipped themselves with soap, sponges, buckets and water hoses.

The response in Crewkerne was amazing, raising an incredible £725.00 on the day. Crew Manager Nick Cridge said: “We had to refill the water on the fire appliance five times throughout the car wash day and cleaned over 100 cars. We would like to thank Crewkerne Town Council and South Somerset District Council for their assistance and allowing us to use the car park. Thank you to all the crew for their efforts and for giving up a day of the holiday weekend and thank you to everyone that came to support our annual car wash. The generosity has astounded us all.”
