Eleven local organisations and community groups were successful in receiving a Community Grant Award for 2018/19. The cheques were presented to representatives of the organisations and groups at the Annual Town Meeting of Electors. Those receiving an award were: Crewkerne & District Museum & Heritage Centre £1,500 to support running costs, Crewkerne Cricket Club £250 to enable weed killing of cricket outfield, Crewkerne Local Information Centre £654 to support running costs, Crewkerne Tea Dance Group £210 to support running costs, CUDOS £300 contribution towards replacing scenery flats, Henhayes Community Centre £1,000 support to provision of meal services, Rebel Runners £160 funding towards run leader courses, Rotary Club of Crewkerne District £1,000 support towards St Bart’s Fair, Severalls Jubilee Bowls Club £300 contribution to an automatic irrigation system, The Speedwell Club £1,000 contribution towards hall renovation and Crewkerne & District Twinning Association £200 to support exchange visits.
Crewkerne Town Council invites local community groups and charitable organisations to apply for grants for specific projects once a year. Grant applications open at the beginning of September and close at the end of September. All applicants are contacted in October and those whose applications are successful, receive their cheques at the Annual Town Meeting of Electors in Victoria Hall, which is usually held in April each year.
