COUNTRYWIDE STORE BOUGHT BY LONG ESTABLISHED AGRICULTURAL COMPANY

The Countrywide store in North Street, Crewkerne has been bought by long established agricultural company Wynnstay, whose headquarters are in Powys, Wales. Wynnstay Country Store is a leading supplier of products and services to the rural community and is celebrating 100 years in agriculture this year.

Wynnstay Group plc bought eight former Countrywide Farmers stores when it reached an agreement with administrators KPMG on April 30th. A statement issued by the agricultural supplies group read: “Wynnstay is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with the administrators of Countrywide Farmers plc to acquire the business and assets of eight stores from Countrywide’s network of country outlets for a total initial consideration of £800,000. With four of the stores located in Devon and Cornwall, their addition strategically extends Wynnstays geographic reach in the South West of England.”

The Crewkerne store is the only one in Somerset recently acquired by Wynnstay, the others are in Helston, Wadebridge, Otterham, Dartington, Thame in Oxfordshire, Raglen in Monmouthshire and at Bridgnorth in Shropshire. The Crewkerne store re-opened yesterday under its new name.
Ken Greetham, Chief Executive Officer of Wynnstay said: “Farmers and the rural community are at the heart of Wynnstays offering and we look forward to welcoming new customers to the Group as we introduce our products and services across these new stores.”
