A group of knitters have donated £280 to the League of Friends of Crewkerne Hospital. The money was raised by residents of the Yarlington Independent Living Scheme in Barn Crescent and some of their friends. The group knitted chicks and baskets, which they filled with Easter eggs, and sold in the run-up to Easter. The cheque was recently presented to the chairman of the League of Friends, Ron Bond, by Jean Geary manager of the scheme and some of the knitters.
Chairman of the League of Friends Ron Bond said: “To raise such a huge amount in this way is a fabulous achievement. I am very grateful to the knitters and to the people who bought the Easter baskets. Every penny of this donation will be used for the benefit of patients at the hospital and other unwell and disabled people in the community. Donations like this are so important to keep up this vital work.”
The knitters met once a week for a knit and natter in the communal lounge at the retirement scheme and many of them carried on knitting in their homes and even enjoyed knitting when they were travelling as passengers in cars, driven by family members and friends.
