A kind birthday request by Katharine Muller of Norton Sub Hamdon for family and friends to donate money to Cancer Research UK instead of buying presents for her 100th Birthday on April 1st this year, has raised £195 for CRUK. Katharine also requested for donations to be given to St Margaret’s Hospice instead of spent on gifts to celebrate her centenary.
Chairman of Crewkerne & District Friends of Cancer Research UK, Simon Colledge and treasurer Lawrence Cox visited Katharine at her home recently to thank her on behalf of CRUK and present her with a bouquet of flowers for her generosity. Simon Colledge said: “We enjoyed a pot of tea with Katharine in her lovely garden, thanked her for her kindness and congratulated Katharine on becoming a centenarian.”
Crewkerne & District Friends of Cancer Research UK are always very grateful for donations to the charity. The local group fundraise throughout the year and are looking forward to their next big event on Wednesday June 20th when a Summer Lunch will be held from 12 noon until 2 pm at 17 Middle Path in Crewkerne. Tickets at £6 each, can be purchased at the gate on the day. Lunch will take place under gazebos in the sheltered garden where drinks will be available.
Other attractions include stalls selling handmade cards, plants, bring and buy items and paperback books. Raffle tickets will be on sale with all prizes, including an original painting by a local artist, kindly donated. A similar event held last Summer proved to be a great success, raising over £750 and the Friends are hoping that the sun will shine again on this year’s event and be just as successful.
