CHARITY CONCERT BY PERFORMER WHO MET MANY CELEBRITIES DURING SHOWBIZ CAREER

A charity concert at Henhayes Community Centre on Friday July 6th will be performed by Jan McNeill, who during her 35 year Showbiz career met many celebrities who remain great friends. Jan’s concert will include a variety of standards, Jazz classics, show tunes, a few stories of her time in the entertainment world and will finish with a bit of Abba, Simply The Best and I Will Survive.

This year sees Jan celebrating 10 cancer free years and the concert is in aid of Cancer Research UK, a charity that has always been her charity of choice and remains very close to her heart. Jan retired from showbiz 12 years ago – a glittering career in entertainment covering summer seasons, variety, stage shows and performing on cruise liners that culminated in her becoming Cruise Director of Seabourn 6* Luxury Cruises.

In 1999, Jan met Sir Cliff Richard and was asked by him to perform on a week’s charter cruise for a group of 80 friends, to celebrate his 60th birthday in 2000. Guests included Olivia Newton-John, The Shadows, Sir Tim Rice, Dame Shirley Bassey, Una Stubbs and Gloria Honeyford. Jan is also a long term friend of Jane McDonald, who starred in a fund-raising evening for Cancer Research in Dundee in 2009, as Jan had received her treatment for breast cancer there and was living at the time in Aberfeldy.

Jan McNeill said: “I moved with my husband Brian to Somerset four years ago and now enjoy the lovely place we call home in Misterton. I spend my time speaking about my career to WI’s, lunch groups, Inner Wheel and Rotary, so life is never dull.” Tickets for Jan’s charity concert, which are selling fast, cost £12 and include a light supper. They are available from Henhayes Community Centre in person or by phoning the centre on 01460 74340.
