RECORD ATTENDANCE AT SUMMER LUNCH IN AID OF CANCER RESEARCH UK

A record attendance was reported at this year’s Summer Lunch in aid of Cancer Research UK. 70 people enjoyed a ploughman’s type lunch in the colourful and semi-shaded private garden in Crewkerne which raised £957 for the charity. The event was organised by Crewkerne & District Friends of Cancer Research UK, who for the fourth year running enjoyed glorious sunshine at their annual summer fund-raising event.

Stalls selling hand-made cards, plants, bring and buy items and paperback books did a brisk trade and the raffle with all prizes kindly donated, including an original painting by a local artist, also helped to make it a record breaking event. Treasurer of Crewkerne & District Friends of Cancer Research UK Lawrence Cox said: “Heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended for their generosity and to David and Audrey Long for once again offering their beautiful garden as the setting for our Summer Lunch. Many ingredients were donated – for which the organisers are very grateful. The sun shone and great fun was had by all.”

Sponsors of the Summer Lunch included; Barrett Bros. Butchers, Blue Viney Cheese, Costa Coffee, Godminster Cheese, James Hardware, Mortimers, Perry’s Cider, Waitrose, Wyke Farms and the Methodist Church.
