WELCOME ON BOARD THE SATURDAY COMMUNITY BUS BETWEEN BRIDPORT AND CREWKERNE

Chris Turner, chairman of Beaminster Town Council welcomed passengers on board the CB3 bus service between Bridport and Crewkerne on its first run on Saturday. The new Saturday community bus, operated by Beaminster Town Council with fully trained volunteers, was initiated with the key purpose of keeping communities in the Beaminster area connected, calling at villages along the route, stopping at Crewkerne railway station to enable passengers to travel on main line trains, bringing people into Crewkerne for shopping or to connect with South West Coaches No96 bus service to Yeovil.

The CB3 currently runs from Bridport town centre to Crewkerne on Saturdays at 0922 hrs, 1422 hrs and 1627 hrs, all starting two minutes earlier from Bridport bus station. On the return journeys, the CB3 bus departs from the George Hotel bus stop in Crewkerne at 1025 hrs, 1520 hrs and 1730 hrs. Passengers boarding the CB3 last Saturday morning were looking forward to meeting up with friends, visiting the Bridport street market or spending time along the West Dorset coast by catching another bus in Bridport or walking to West Bay.

Chris Turner said: “We are very grateful to Peter Graham, a professional bus driver, who took the first few runs and gave us some sound advice and suggestions to help us to get the best from the service. A huge thank you to Bob Driscoll who performed as our Clippy for the day, dispensing tickets, chatting to the passengers and keeping an eye on the schedule. Please don’t forget that we are still very much in need of drivers to help build up a pool of willing volunteers to keep us going and share the work and fun.” Chris Turner can be contacted at the Beaminster town council offices on 01308 863634.

Thank you to all concerned this is brilliant but alas now we have a Sat service I understand the service no 40 in the week ran by the council will come to the end at the end of August so I have been told by a driver everybody says leave your car’s at home to reduce air pollution and use public transport then they stop the buses and make the drivers redundant to save more money,I have a suggestion that is close all local councils and run them from one centre ie Bournemouth/Staunton etc this would save billions because local council buildings could be sold for much needed housing,
