A one woman cabaret show, presented by Jan McNeill at Henhayes Community Centre raised £2,016 for Cancer Research UK. Jan, a retired ex-professional performer with 35 years of experience has been cancer free for 10 years and decided this was a great reason to make a comeback and raise much needed funds locally for the charity.
Jan received a warm welcome at the cabaret evening which was a sell-out, with a few returned tickets being re-sold on the night. Jan said: “The Henhayes Centre, which is mainly staffed by volunteers, generously gave the use of all facilities for the concert and members of the audience enjoyed a supper in the interval. The raffle, which consisted of a wonderful selection of donated prizes, from a magnum of champagne to meals out, wine and much more, raised over £300.”
There was even more good news at the concert when it was announced that the evening would receive match funding from two members of Lloyds Bank in Crewkerne, meaning that an additional £1,000 was added to bring the grand total raised for Cancer Research UK, after supper expenses were deducted, to just over £2,000.
