Drop in craft activities are taking place at Crewkerne Library during the school summer holidays. From July 21st until 27th youngsters can make a creepy spider. On Friday July 27th, children’s author Cherry Cobb will be talking about her new book Will’s War, set in 1941 at the time of the Blitz in London. This event is aimed at 7 to 10 year olds. No prior booking is required. Craft activities continue again from Saturday 28th with a chance for youngsters to make a Dennis squidgy. On Tuesday July 31st, Crewkerne Library will be running a Slime Workshop. Prior booking is required for this workshop and there will be a cost of £1.50 per child.

Crewkerne Flower Show takes place at Henhayes Community Centre on Saturday August 4th. The annual show is organised by Crewkerne Gardening Club who are affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society. Doors will open at 10.30 am with an admission fee of 50p per person. Entries in the various classes, covering floral arrangements, flowers, vegetables, homecrafts, handicrafts and photography are welcome. Children under the age of 12 years are invited to exhibit at the show, free of charge, with a choice of painting a pebble, decorating four biscuits, and designing and making a miniature garden, maximum size 297mm x 210mm. Entry forms are available from the LIC in the town hall and must be returned with the appropriate fees to the club secretary Rosemary Prince by Wednesday August 1st.

This year’s Summer Fete, organised by the elderly residents of the Yarlington retirement living scheme at Barn Crescent will be in aid of The National Autistic Society. The community fete takes place on Saturday August 4th from 11 am. Attractions include a table top sale, tombola and a raffle with great prizes. Drinks, light lunches and afternoon teas will be available in the common room.
