EARLY DEPARTURE OF LANDLORD FORCES PUB TO CLOSE

The early departure of the landlord Kieron Robinson at the White Hart Inn in East Street, has forced the pub to close for the time being. The historic inn which dates back to the mid to late 15th Century and is a Grade 11 listed building is owned by the Swaffield family. In 2015, Mr Robinson took on a five year tenancy agreement for the licensed premises, which was originally the site of the George Inn before it moved to its current location further along the street.

According to Canadian historian and author Patrick Carroll who wrote about Crewkerne pubs in The Inn At The Crossroads, after living in the town for several years, the White Hart was also at one time known as The Gun.

A notice has now been posted on the front door of the White Hart Inn by the owners, which states: “SORRY CLOSED Due to Landlord finishing TWO years early.” Anyone who is interested in taking on the tenancy is asked to please contact Charles Swaffield on 01460 72059.
