The annual walk around the Parish Boundary takes place on Saturday September 8th, departing from outside of Crewkerne Library in Falkland Square at 1.30 pm. The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Crewkerne District and everyone is invited to join them on the five mile walk, which is not suitable for pushchairs but welcomes children accompanied by an adult and dogs on leads.

The tradition of walking around the parish boundary was known originally as Beating the Bounds. It is believed to date back hundreds of years when it was led by a member of the church clergy. Revived by the Civic Society in the 1960’s, it is now under the leadership of the Rotary Club of Crewkerne District.

Last year’s walk attracted a group of around 38 people. The route consists of mainly footpaths with some walking on quiet roads and the five mile walk can be shortened if preferred, with opportunities to cut back into town at various points along the way. Those who wish to take part in the free walk, are asked to wear sturdy footwear and clothes suitable for the weather on the day.
