The future looks bright for a Crewkerne astrology group, with the prediction that it will continue to thrive. Maggie Hewson who runs the study group, part of Crewkerne & District U3A, has been an astrologer for 35 years. For Maggie and members of the group who follow the methods of the 17th Century French mathematician and astrologer Jean Baptiste Morin, astrology is an art which has its roots in the ancient past. Maggie started the group at Chard U3A and brought it with her when she moved to Crewkerne. A number of the Chard members continue to attend the group which has looked at the chart for the wedding between Meghan Markle and Prince Harry and further back to the chart for the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States of America.

Maggie Hewson said: “We also look at the solstices and lunar eclipses. Think of your life as a ship sailing across an ocean and when an eclipse occurs it can make a navigational correction and alter your course for better or worse. In astrology, the possibilities are never ending. The difference between real astrology and what you read in the newspapers, is that papers only give you sun sign astrology. A true horoscope is a map of the heavens at the time of birth and has the position of the sun, moon and all the planets, as well as other calculated points.”

When Maggie first began astrology, she used a calculator, biro, ruler and a glass to draw a circle. Astrology has moved on since then and Maggie can now access the information from computer programs on her laptop and can find out the planetary positions by consulting an ephemeris. Going back in history, kings and queens would have their own personal astrologer to predict the future and the best days for important events and battles.

Astrology in this day and age is much easier to work with. Anyone can discover their own horoscope provided they know the date, time and place of birth. Maggie said: “The astrology group meet on the first Thursday afternoon of the month at 2 pm. I hope that I am passing on my knowledge to others and keeping the art alive.” For more information on the Crewkerne astrology group, please email greatram@astro.go-plus.net
