Crewkerne Fire Station is currently looking for new recruits to join the Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service as On-Call Firefighters. No qualifications are needed but applicants must be aged 18 years or over, able to respond from home or work within five minutes, be physically and medically fit with good eyesight and hearing, prepared for the commitment and discipline of a Firefighter and preferably hold a UK driving licence.
Retained On-Call Firefighters come from a variety of backgrounds. They provide a part-time serivce, minimum of 63 hours per week and respond to fire and emergency calls. Incidents range from attending fires, floods, road traffic accidents, chemical spills and talking to the community about fire prevention. The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning takes place on Friday September 28th. It’s the time of the year when everyone stops for a cuppa and a piece of cake and raises money for Macmillan Cancer Support. One of the Crewkerne places where you can donate to the charity and take part in the national event is Bowhayes Lodge in Orchard Rise who will be hosting an afternoon event from 2 pm – 4 pm Everyone is invited to join the residents and staff members for refreshments.

Performance Art Theatre comes to the King William Inn on Friday September 28th at 7.30 pm with a darkly comical tale of a stolen horse and wild west country soul that shows the mess some people make of relationships. Horses! Horses! presented by the Wassail Theatre Company and co-hosted by Creative Crewkerne is a show with pub games, pints, crisps, heartbreak and laughter, country music, lots of karaoke and a few surprises.
