An experienced radio presenter is excited about the prospect of setting up a new community radio station for Crewkerne and the surrounding villages. Rob Strickland whose stage name is Robbie Hunter has previously worked or appeared on many radio stations including BBC Somerset, BBC Bristol, United FM, Quay West Radio, Orchard FM, Ivel FM, Mirage FM, BBC Radio 1, Heart, Galaxy 101, Abbey 104 and Fresh Radio for which he still retains the name and licence.
Robbie has recently moved to Crewkerne. He invited everyone who was interested in being part of a new community radio station, which would be broadcast through the internet, to meet up for an informal chat yesterday afternoon or evening at the Old Stagecoach Inn. Robbie said: “I am inviting everyone in the community to have an opportunity to be involved in the radio station. I would like to see local groups become involved from schools, scouts, churches, town council, community organisations and centres, sports clubs and charities.
“The main points of the radio station will be to bring information to the local community with regular live news bulletins and traffic reports. I would like to give people the opportunity to try something new, whether that is presenting a programme, technical support, events co-ordinating, public liaison, admin, finance or other areas that are important factors in running a successful community radio station.”
Ideally, Robbie would like to see the radio station have a studio and a reception area in the town centre, which would be accessible for everyone to visit, with a level entrance and parking for disabled close by. Response to Robbie’s recent informal chat sessions have been very encouraging. The next stage is to form a committee to run the radio station under strict broadcast rules to be documented in the formal constitution. Robbie said: “It was a great get-together at the Old Stagecoach Inn to discuss the new community radio station, now let’s get this baby going.” Please email email@example.com for more information and to register an interest in the new community venture.
