A photograph of a vase of flowers circled by fallen petals, taken by Betty Spanswick, has won first prize in Crewkerne & District U3A digital photography competition. Betty Spanswick who took first prize in last year’s inter U3A photography competition between Crewkerne, Yeovil and Dorchester, also won fourth prize in the local competition with another of her entries, to the competition’s theme of Broken Down.
The competition was held in the Tithe Barn at Manor Farm in North Perrott. Each member of the U3A digital photography group was invited to enter three photos. Competition judge Gordon Hall commented on the improved quality of the entries and as part of the judging process, provided helpful advice to each competitor.
Second and third prize was awarded to Val Warren for her pictures of a tumbledown barn and a bulldozer. An entry by Mary Fowler was awarded 5th and a Dorothy Woods photograph came 6th. Certificates were presented to the winners by Crewkerne & District U3A photography group leader Mary Fowler. The best 12 photos will be selected to represent Crewkerne in the annual inter U3A photography competition in November.
