The first cryptic clue on a Sunday morning radio programme Clueless with Richard Lewis on BBC Somerset & BBC Radio Bristol led the Somerset broadcasting team Luke Knight and Andy Bennett to Crewkerne. Listeners are invited to phone, email and tweet the answers to the clues, which are read out before the teams from Somerset and Bristol reach their first destination. Listeners correctly identified ‘Sounds like a ships company making money’ as Crewkerne.
Luke and Andy who had set off earlier from Norton-sub-Hamdon were greeted by the deputy town clerk Laura Gowers on the town hall steps and invited in for a mince pie and cup cake. The BBC Somerset radio team interviewed Laura, Barbara Woodward from Wayford Vineyard, Dave Brolly from CUDOS and local reporter Ana Collingridge, who were keen to promote the town and its forthcoming events.
The Christmas Market on Saturday December 8th from 10 am until 3 pm in Market Square with great ideas for presents from the craft stalls and stalls selling locally produced honey, wine and lots more was mentioned and the matinee performance of the Christmas Concert by CUDOS at 2 pm on the same day, for which tickets are still available by calling 01460 74380.
The radio team’s second clue ‘Find time now for your mother’ was correctly identified by a listener as Martock and Luke and Andy left for their next destination. The morning had started well for the Somerset team who were ahead of the Bristol team but although their opponents Sasha and Bruce were road blocked during additional questions on air, a break in radio transmission at Barrington Court caused the Somerset team to lose valuable time. Luke and Andy were late setting off for their final destination of Rumwell farm shop where a Christmas craft fair was taking place. The Bristol team also failed to reach their final destination in time and the result was declared a draw.
Clueless has been running for two years on a Sunday morning from 10 am until 1 pm. In the current round of trips out and about, Luke and Andy are winning against Sasha and Bruce with 19 points to their 15 points. While the radio show is fun to listen to, it also gives the towns and villages that the teams visit, a wonderful opportunity to promote their community and forthcoming events, live on air.
