ART GROUP LEADER STEPS DOWN AFTER FIVE SUCCESSFUL YEARS

The leader of the Art Appreciation group of Crewkerne & District U3A has stepped down after five successful years. Under the leadership of Merle Redwood, the art group which meets on the third Tuesday of every month at the George Reynolds Centre, has thrived and currently has a membership of 50.

Merle organised regular visits to art galleries and annual study days which attracted U3A members from Chard and Yeovil as well as from Crewkerne. Merle who is hoping someone will step forward to take over from her by the art groups next meeting on January 15th, is planning to take a couple of months off before returning as an ordinary member. Merle said: “It is amazing the way the group has grown and I am quite sad to be stepping down.

“They are a fantastic friendly group of people and have always been very supportive of what I’ve tried to do to develop our knowledge of art and artists. I found the job of leading them to be very rewarding, not only from the knowledge I have acquired but also knowing how much the members seemed to enjoy what we did. I loved being their leader and know how much I shall miss it.”
U3A committee member Margaret Hewson said: “Merle has given so much and her sessions have been shining stars in our calendar.”
