South Somerset District Council’s Streetscene services will be offering a Christmas Tree Recycling service again this year. Compounds will be installed at various locations across the district between Christmas and the New Year, with collections beginning the second week in January.
The collection point for real Christmas trees in Crewkerne will be at the Henhayes car park and is being provided in partnership with Crewkerne Town Council. Natural trees of any shape or size, minus their decorations and metal stands can be dropped off at the official pick-up point and will be collected on Thursday January 10th for shredding and recycling into garden mulch.
The bare trees can also be taken to official recycling sites for composting after the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Householders who currently pay for garden waste collections can alternatively leave their natural trees of under 6 ft in height, next to their bins for collection on their usual garden waste days from Monday January 7th, 2019. Cllr Jo Roundell Greene, Portfolio Holder for the Environment at SSDC said: “This really is a great opportunity to get rid of your tree locally and also know that it will be used to improve our environment in South Somerset.” A full list of the sites where trees will be collected for recycling can be found on www.southsomerset.gov.uk/xmastreerecycling
