LOCAL RAMBLER PLANS FIVE DAY SPONSORED TREK IN HOLY LAND

Local rambler Miriam Baker, who belongs to four local walking groups, is planning a five-day trek in the Holy Land. 63 year old Miriam who lives in Haselbury Plucknett is hoping to raise £2,000 for the maternity unit of a hospital in Nazareth. Miriam has made several previous visits to the Holy Land, the last one in 2010 when she volunteered to run the Bethlehem Bible College guest house for six months.

The trek is planned for March 2019, when Miriam and her friend Ann from Kirkcudbright in Scotland, will be walking from Nazareth to Cana, Arbel, the Mont of Beatitudes and finally to Capernaum on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Miriam said: “I am used to doing five or six miles once a week, but I shall have to double that in a day, every day. It is a challenge but I am determined to do it. I wanted to do something worthwhile and to help my friend Ann to move on after major surgery. We used to work together at a medical centre in Scotland and have remained very good friends.”

The hospital in Nazareth was established in 1861 and is still administered by the same Edinburgh based trust today. It relies on donations to look after people from across all communities, irrespective of their faith, political persuasions or traditions. Miriam has just two months to raise her sponsorship target and to make sure she is fit enough to complete the challenge. Miriam said: “With the support of the people of Crewkerne and district, I am hoping we can help the trust serve the community of Nazareth for another 150 years.” Anyone who would like to make a donation can visit a charity page set up by Miriam https://nazarethchallenge19.everydayhero.com/…/mim-on-a-mis…
